She offers tips on traveling with partners and shares her favorite romantic cities
What do you do for a living?
For the past 20 years, I have been a luxury matchmaker for the most eligible men and women. At Selective Search, we cater to high-caliber people who value their time and our expertise when it comes to dating. Our clients have discerning tastes and come to us because we safeguard their time, privacy, and preferences. Simply put, we make dreams come true.
What do you think are the most romantic cities?
I’ve learned from my clients that romance is truly in the eye of the beholder. Some couples love the modern sophistication of New York—exploring world-class museums, top-rated restaurants, and Broadway shows together. Others love the old-world feel, relaxed pace, and stunning beauty of historical European cities like Bruges [Belgium] and Cinque Terre [Italy]. My husband and I have traveled extensively and still find our hometown of Chicago—with its stunning views, strollable parks, and amazing food scene—full of romance.
Any tips for couples traveling together for the first time?
Try somewhere new to both of you, so you can share in the discovery of a new destination. Enjoy the planning, and do it together. The anticipation of a trip can be an exciting time in a new relationship, and researching your destination together is a great way to learn about each other. It may be your first opportunity as a couple to plan and make joint decisions while honoring what is important to each of you.
What was the last trip you took?
Rosewood Baha Mar in the Bahamas is a favorite getaway spot with my family. The Bahamas have always held a special place in my heart—it’s where I used to go as a child, it’s where we got engaged, and it’s where we return each year for some fun in the sun.
What’s your next planned trip?
My next trip is a combination of work and fun in the Los Angeles area. I’m attending a celebrity wedding with a client and will tack on a few days to visit with prospective clients as well as happy-in-love clients in Manhattan Beach, Pacific Palisades, and Santa Barbara.
What place is at the top of your bucket list?
Costa Rica is at the top of our list for a family trip. It has everything we love—snorkeling, hiking, eco-friendly wildlife tours, incredible cuisine, natural beauty, rich culture, and history.
What’s your favorite United flight you’ve been on?
My favorite flights are always when I travel for client weddings! I beam with pride when invited to share in the celebration of our clients meeting their forever match.
Which famous person—living or dead—would be your dream seatmate?
Kelly Ripa. She sets the standard for blending romance, family, and career while holding onto a strong sense of self. I feel like we would swap life hacks and form an instant connection!
