The Maker
Hudson, New York
Given its name, there should be little surprise that this 11-room inn, which opened in August in the artsy upstate New York town of Hudson, champions local craftspeople. Master furniture restorer Gary Keegan reconstructed the building’s original fireplace mantels, while artist Michael Allen painted a Hudson Valley–inspired mural in the restaurant. The Maker Shop, meanwhile, sells a limited-edition eau de parfum, created in collaboration with local fragrance maker Christopher Draghi; 100 percent of the fragrance’s proceeds are donated to benefit the nonprofit organization Friends of Hudson Youth. The Hoxton

Each of the 10 outposts of the hip London-based Hoxton chain pays homage to its neighborhood with a shop that offers exclusive pieces from local artisans. At this new West Loop property’s Best of Chicago store, guests can find a sturdy nylon tote from Humboldt Park–based design studio 1733, a unisex scent from painter and perfumer Viktor van Bramer, and an enamel pin that looks like Cloud Gate by the husband-and-wife-run company Reppin. The local sensibility extends beyond products, too: Rooftop restaurant Cabra Cevicheria is from Chicagoan Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard, and the hotel’s event calendar has often featured Windy City comedians and musicians. Emeline
Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston’s new Emeline hotel takes a cue from the neighboring City Market in highlighting the work of local makers. Guests can pick up a one-of-a-kind souvenir at the hotel’s Keep Shop, from oyster shell jewelry by Margerite & Motte to Japanese-style gyotaku fish rubbings by chef Andrew Clay. Each of the 212 guest rooms also features local wares, with soap dishes by ceramicist Susan Gregory and a custom vinyl album, provided by Record Stop Charleston, that features a mix of songs inspired by the property. Fishtown, Philadelphia
Every detail at this six-room property is intended to make visitors feel at home in Philadelphia’s über-hip Fishtown. Neighborhood tattoo parlor/design firm True Hand Society oversaw the decor, creating a Scandinavian-inspired look using entirely Philly-made furnishings, from bed frames and light fixtures to accent pillows (blockprinted by textile brand Fla x + Symbol) and mugs (hand-thrown by Slopey Made Ceramics). And while the rooms all have full kitchens, they’re also equipped with iPads that offer neighborhood guides, including food and drink delivery options. From $215 per night.
