For more than 15 years, The Resort at Paws Up has been the premier luxury ranch in Montana—but that doesn’t mean the 37,000-acre property, located about 45 minutes east of Missoula, is resting on its laurels. Last summer, Paws Up debuted The Green O, an ultra-exclusive, adults-only resort-within-the-resort named for early-20th-century rancher Paul Greenough, who once owned the land and branded his sheep by painting a green “O” on them. (Keep an eye out for sculptural versions on the grounds.) Here are three reasons you’ll want to go green this summer.

Contemporary Cabins
The Green O offers 12 secluded, standalone “hauses” in four different designs, with features ranging from outdoor hot tubs and two-sided fireplaces to rooftop terraces and glass-encased spiral staircases. No matter which of the sleek, modern dwellings you’re in, you’ll have floor-to-ceiling windows to take in the forest views, as well as heated bathroom floors, super-plush hooded robes, and in-unit laundry machines.

Delectable Dining
Even amid the established luxury at Paws Up, the thing that truly sets The Green O apart is the cuisine at its central Social Haus. The dining room manages to be both intimate and expansive thanks to its tall ceilings, glass walls, and executive chef Brandon Cunningham’s open kitchen. The food is delightful all day, from souffléed mushroom-and-cheddar omelets and ricotta beignets in the morning to Wagyu smash burgers and Vietnamese-style crepes with Dungeness crab at lunch, but the real standout is the ever-evolving dinner menu. Items change night-to-night, from scallops and salmon to lamb and bison, but the presentations are uniformly Michelin-worthy.

Ample Activities
The accommodations and amenities may be grand, but let’s be real—you came to Big Sky Country to revel in the great outdoors. Guests at The Green O have access to all of the activities at Paws Up: guided fly-fishing on the Blackfoot River (the stream, which was the setting of A River Runs Through It, literally runs through the resort), horseback riding, mountain biking, clay shooting, and even a genuine cattle drive. At the end of the day, treat yourself to a massage in one of the tents at the resort’s Spa Town. The West never felt less wild.
