While we’re all cooped up, we decided to ask our editors where their favorite places to dance are. So celebrate International Dance Day with a few of our favorite spots around the world.
“I don’t dance. But when I was in Madrid two years ago I took a flamenco class at Corral de la Morería and it was incredible. Flamenco is so empowering and artful. But while I enjoyed learning, I much preferred watching. When those women dance, you feel the emotion in every step.” —Ellen Carpenter, editor in chief
“The coolest dance hall I’ve ever been to is La Catedral, a well-worn milonga in Buenos Aires where everyday porteños go to tango. I can’t do the step myself, but I found simply watching the dancers to be enchanting.” —Justin Goldman, deputy editor
“I was an audience member more than an active participant, but I was genuinely moved by the flamenco I witnessed in Sevilla. There’s something so ancient-feeling about the rhythms and the passionate singing.” —Nicholas DeRenzo, executive editor
“My cousins in Cali, Colombia took my friend and me dancing at their favorite local clubs (after drinking a bit of aguardiente – uf) and it was the sweatiest, wildest, silliest time…I’m happy there are no known videos of me trying to learn salsa, merengue and bachata because I’m sure I’d be hideously embarrassed!” —Jessie Adler, photo director
“My friends and I used to go to this bar in our college town called Casa. Once a month they had an ’80s night dance party. People would line the block waiting to getting in. It was always the best place to dance the night away.” —Sydney Otto, assistant digital & social editor
